Father's Day 2011

Every year for Father's Day I would go in and have our pictures taken for Husband.  In 7 years of we've only missed one and that was because Vinny was in the hospital for a week.

However, last year was a trial to get the pictures taken 6 people in one studio is a lot...add in that 5 of those people are small squirrely children and well you can imagine the chaos!  So this year I asked one of the girls in our youth group if she would take pictures of us.  She loves to take pictures and knows how to edit better than me.

So last Saturday she and I anxiously waited to see if the rain would pass, which it did, and had a wonderful time getting pictures taken.  She came over to our house which was fabulous because the kids are comfortable around here.  We are fortunate to live on the church property and have access to things like an outdoor basketball court, stairs, and wonderful landscaping.

Since my photos have been pretty crummy lately I thought I'd surprise you all and post a few that she took...

These are just a few of my favorites!  She got some really great 'action' shots and I love how most of the photos have that 'not posed' look and that the smiles are REAL not just plastered on.

However, she surprised me by having a photo collage made into a 11x14 print for us.  I was floored, it was so sweet of her.  I of course came up with a great way to give the collage to Husband yesterday...

I simply took a 16 x 20 canvas and traced the outline of the collage onto it.  Then I had the kids armed with Sharpies (yes, I gave them permanent markers...I was watching) and had them write their names (I helped the little ones write their names)  and draw a picture.  I went back and wrote their ages under their names and then wrote 'We Love Daddy' with the love being a heart shape and I included the year on the canvas too.  Then finally I glued the picture down, cleaned off the finger prints.  Now I just have to get/make a frame for it.  It was a quick, easy and low cost gift to make that will be cherished for years.

I hope you all had a wonderful Father's Day weekend!

  4. Thank you so much for the lovely comments! Yes it was very well recieved and the kids really enjoyed drawing on it for Daddy. They were so excited to give the gift to him. The first words they said Sunday morning were "It's Father's Day! We need to give Daddy his Father's Day present!"
