A Bit of Randomness

1. Currently I'm uploading 85 pictures to photobucket...it will take a while.
2. I love photobucket...you can save, share, and edit your pictures.  It isn't like Picnik but it works enough for me.
3. The kids and I went to the park today...so much fun.
4. I've decided the housework can wait today, Fun is on the agenda today.
5. Days like this make me excited for summer.
6. I know that this day is fleeting and tomorrow I could be running around like wild banshee.
7. I hope I'm not though.
8. I went thrifting on Friday.
9. Should have pics for you tomorrow.
10.  My secret project is coming along nicely.
11.  When I was little I couldn't keep a secret, now as an adult I love them...anticipation is so highly underrated.
12.  I made three garments on Saturday night.
13.  I need to practice my self-photography.
14.  May is almost here, that's when my Daddy's birthday is.
15. I bought patterns from Magpie Patterns today...you should too.

I hope you enjoyed this small moment of complete randomness.  I'm not ashamed to admit that this is how my mind works most of the time.  I hope someone thinks like this too, otherwise I'm alone in the thought world.  Have a fabulous spring day.

Note:  The patterns I bought was for an infant footie romper to be made out of woven fabric and an embroidery pattern.

Because I'm a Brave Super Mom...

Well, maybe the title is a stretch but I will admit that I had to put on my Super Mom cape for what I did today. I took this adorable little girl...

Stuck her in a chair...

Took lots of before pictures...

The I grabbed a spray bottle, clips, comb and *gasp* scissors and did what needed to be done...

A HAIR CUT!

Personally I think she looks uber adorable with it and I look at it in disbelief that I actually did this myself.

The layers, the shaping around the face, the trimming of the bangs.  The whole shebang!  All me.  Yup, I'm a little prideful here (you'll forgive me later right?).  Though honestly I was certain I'd screw it up so bad that the money I was trying to save by doing it myself I'd end up spending to have it fixed.  I am so grateful that I pay really close attention when my hair stylist cuts my hair, it paid off today.

What do you think?  I know her curls will bounce up with the lightness of her hair now.  Is there something you've done lately that you had to be brave about?  Something you need to do but haven't because you're lacking the courage?  I say do it and reap the benefits! And by benefits I mean cute hair without food stuck in the ends :)

Random Friday

1.  Today is Friday.  I'd say that it is one of my busier days of the week but really every day is busy with 5 kids.

2.  Yesterday was Thursday.  I know, I'm sure I've shocked you for certain with that little tidbit of information but alas it is true.  Thursday used to be my busy day but yesterday was much more relaxed than it has been in months...I loved it.

3.  I sewed last night.  This is a good thing for me and as long as the camera, internet and all other techie related stuff play nicely I should have pictures soon.

4.  I really, really, really, really....really, really want to knit myself a fingering weight cardigan sweater.

5.  I'm really, really, really, really...really, really nervous to knit myself a fingering weight cardigan sweater.

6.  I'm at war within myself.

7.  I think I'll just knit hats and mitts for myself...maybe I'll sew myself a lightweight cardigan.

8,  I'm buying myself hair dye today...not sure what color yet though I'm leaning towards dark cherry red.

9.  I'll post pictures when I'm done so long as the techie stuff from #3 applies.

10.  Random isn't just random with me...it's quirky!

What can I say I'm a bit random today?  Better go double check my to do lists and shopping lists as well.  Oh and for the record I randomly placed pics of my kids in throughout the post but I'm not sure it looks all that random...what are your thoughts?  Here's to a randomly perfect and hilarious day!

Well, How About Them Apples?

So you know that blogging is so much fun for me.  I love reading blogs, I love writing mine...but mostly I love the friends I've made through blogging.  It sounds a little far fetched, to make friends through blogging but to be completely honest I think blogging is the 21st Century's version of pen pals :)  I mean, when I was in 3rd grade our teacher had us write letters to children in China (well I think it was China)...now with the internet we can not only find our own pen pals but can 'see' what they're doing on a fairly regular basis (sure beats the whole waiting a week for a letter now doesn't it).  I have other theories about what the internet has done for updating historical social interactions, like internet dating is simply a new form of a mail-order bride (or husband)...but I digress.

No, today I want to share with you The Versatile Blogger Award...my good friend Rebecca of nook. Was nominated for this award and per the rules (linked here) she nominated other friends, including me.  So Thank You Rebecca!  This is a pretty neat award as it is a fantastic idea for letting others a) get to know you as the blogger behind the blog and b) promote other blogs there by increasing traffic and for those who have sponsor's that's pretty impressive.  Part of receiving the award is telling 7 things about yourself, things that you may not or probably don't know about me.  So here they are in no particular order:

1. I have had all 5 of my babies at home.

Now 9 years ago when I found out I was expecting our first child I went the traditional route, I found an OB/GYN and went to my appointments.  Yet I was terrified, a phobic is more like it, of needles.  I wanted a low intervention birth, I didn't want strangers in the room with me, actually I only wanted my husband and doctor and maybe a nurse in the room.  I didn't want friends or family at the birth, I didn't want interns practicing on me, I didn't want an IV, I didn't want a c-section, I didn't want drugs...the list goes on.  I however found the absolute WORST doctor for a low intervention birth.  He looked at me like I was insane for wanting this so, after a few months I decided to look around for a midwife.  After a few failed attempts I found a pair of wonderful out-of-hospital midwives and it was then that we found our team!  Oh, it was amazing and I have never once regretted my choice.

I have a black thumb, in the worst way.  Seriously I can't grow anything but babies :)  It is a really good thing that I live in the time that I do for I wouldn't eat if I had to grow it myself.  Still, I wish I could.  I suppose I look a little like the people who want to knit or sew like I do when I look at women (and men) that can garden...honestly I can't even transplant stuff!

I hate being in control.  I love it when other people take charge, now that isn't to say I can't be in charge, it just means that it isn't my favorite place to be nor is my forte.  I tend to forget little details and have a tendency to take any negative feed back personally.  This however, is a great quality to have!  I am more than willing to let my husband take the lead which makes him really happy.  Also, I tend to hold things loosely, stress less and feel much more creative as a result.  Also, this makes it much easier to follow and obey the Lord and not stress over things I can't change...I also happen to be a great delegator!

Laundry is my most favorite household chore...folding the clothes is probably the best of the whole chore.  I like how the clothes smell as they come out of the dryer, the warmth on my hands and the realization that my favorite outfit is clean again.  However, like all things that I love to do, it tends to be the last thing to get done as I feel like if it's enjoyable to do it must be done last...though I'm working on changing that idea ;)

My favorite dessert is pudding.  I like just about any flavor from chocolate to pumpkin.  I really prefer it warm to cold...but is best served with fresh whip cream.  I think that it is something so easy to make but so perfectly homey that it warms not only my tummy but my soul.

When I was pregnant with Lincoln the only reason we ate was because Husband cooked.  I was a newly wed (we'd been married 9 months when we found out we were expecting) and cooking wasn't a skill I had truly acquired by that time.  Learning to cook while pregnant is not advisable...hormones raging along with food that turns out bad makes for a lot of take out.  Good thing that Husband knew how to cook and kept us well fed :)  Though now I know how to cook and have really taken to making up new recipes, altering foods and trying new things in the kitchen...quite the transformation in the last few years.

Wow, already at seven?  Okay, well since this is the last one I'll make it really good...I've got it!  I really, really, really, really want to write a book.  I've wanted to write a book and have it published since I was a wee girl...but as I'm getting older I'm really feeling the pull to put the effort into it.  I have a few (as in several hundred) ideas floating around in my nogin' but I'm still undecided as to where to put forth my effort...I'd absolutely love it if you all wanted to encourage me as I ponder this HUGE undertaking.

Okay, well there it is.  All you need to know about me in a nutshell.  Okay, not everything but the stuff that comes to mind.  As per the rules I shall pass off this award to some blogs that I love that I have recently discovered:

Michelle Paige....I love this woman!  She has fantastic crafts, a great sense of decor, and I'm constantly blessed by her posts!

A Big Creative Yes...He has some really great, thought provoking posts about being creative, how to be more creative and similar tales.

Becoming Minimalist...again a great blog about learning how to cut out the junk and have more room and money to enjoy life to the fullest.

The Generous Wife...a great blog where you get daily encouragements to love your Husband and creative ideas for keeping the spark alive in you marriage (and in the bedroom)

Kendi Everyday...oh my, her fashion is adorable, her writing hilarious, truly I read her post out loud to my husband quite frequently.

Thanks again Rebecca for the nomination!  I love your blog too and can't wait until the Holiday Market is done so that I can read about your daily exploits more frequently!

Random Thursday

1. I hate flies.  Seriously, they drive me nuts!  They are just so gross, fast, ugly and well a nuisance.  I understand that God made them for a purpose, but really couldn't they procreate just a little slower?

2.  I've been knitting a lot lately...really, more than even what is normal for me.  I like it.  I LOVE it!  It is so much fun to crank out lots of projects, don't get me wrong I haven't turned into a single project knitter...but there is something about finishing a project that makes life smile at me.

3.  I love Knit Alongs...really, why have I not joined them before?  Currently I'm knitting Alana Dakos Cedar Leaf Shawlette (ravelry link) as a part of luvinthemommyhood's Carefree Cowl KAL.  I already finished one cowl...

4.  Isn't it purdy?  I love it.  Wear it constantly :)  Specs of pattern are on ravelry here...if you haven't joined ravelry yet you should!

5.  I think I wear it constantly because the heating war has begun at our house.  Husband likes to save energy.  I like to have my fingers and toes minus frostbite.  So far there has been no middle ground found.

6.  For as much as I dislike the heat/AC battles that ensue at our house I love that my Husband is concerned about expenses.  It usually means I can buy more yarn :)

7.  Also if something were to happen to Husband, I'd probably have the house super cold just because I'd miss the heated discussions we'd have over energy costs.

8.  This is what I have so far on my Shawlette...
this is a quick photo taken from my camera phone...completely unedited

9.  I love orange.  Always have.  Always will.  You should too.

10.  This is truly a random post.

11.  You can find more information about the Carefree Cowl KAL here...

luvinthemommyhood

nice pretty button huh?

12.  I love math :)

So are you feeling random today like me?  Have so much to do but so little time?  I'm thinking about sneaking off for a latte/mocha after dropping the older kiddos at their prospective afternoon classes....maybe even stop at the library and see what amazing new finds there are to be had.  Last bit of randomness, I think I want to write a book...what should it be about?
