Coastal Knits!!!!

So last Thursday my copy of Coastal Knits arrived!

I was so ridiculously happy when it came then I opened up and was just wowed by the pictures and the writing, not too mention mine was signed!

How's that you ask?  Well, maybe it was because I won my copy!  Yes that's right, I won it!  I found out the day after Thanksgiving that my comment had been randomly selected from luvinthemommyhood's giveaway of the book.  Oh, that was a good day :)

Because waiting to knit has never been a strong suit I had to cast on for a new project...

Yup, that's the Cambrian Cowl.  I'm knitting it with Suri Dream from Knit Picks, held double stranded.  I am in love <3  It is wonderfully soft and I'm not sure I'll be able to part with it...

How goes the Holiday Crafting?  I have my calendar all lined up with what must be knit/sewn each day.  I've got my fingers crossed that I've properly gauged my time and that I won't have to run to the yarn shop or fabric store to finish things up.  I may have a few late nights ahead :)  I'm headed for some coffee right now...

March?!

I seriously can't believe it is March already! This year is moving by fast, but then again I have four kiddos and one on the way (officially due the end of this month). March has been deemed "Baby #5 Prep" month. I'll be finishing up getting the house all ready, collecting my birth supplies and most importantly baby knitting. I've already finished one baby hat (picture at left).

The pattern is available through different places, I got it in Knit It! Spring 2007 magazine, but it first appeared in Susan B. Anderson's book Itty-Bitty Hats. It was a super fast knit, only took me a day, including sewing the petals on. Obviously this is my 'girl' hat so I'll be making another baby hat for a boy this month too.

Currently on my needles is Sam Lamb's Baby T-Shirt Vest. This is a simple top down sweater pattern but converted into a vest, which I love vests for baby's. I love how it has buttons on one shoulder, so it is guaranteed to go over the baby's head. I should finish this up by tomorrow. Which means I'm on a knitting roll and should have my massive list of knitting projects accomplished by the end of the month.

The list includes one more baby hat, another sweater for the baby, and a shrug for Elsa Bear to wear on Easter. When I first realized how much knitting had to be done this month I was moderately overwhelmed, but since everything has been going so fast I'm confident I can pull it off. I also have sewing to do...Elsa's Easter dress, ties for the boys, and some postpartum skirts for myself. If there is time I'll whip up an Easter outfit for a boy & girl just in case this little one shows before that day. So you all will have to check back for pictures of my projects.

I have been plugging my way through Finding Your Child's Way and I really love this book. Dr. Hendrickson does a fabulous job of presenting the facts about children on the Spectrum, but also how she dealt with things. In Chapter 3 she discussed discipline and your Autistic child and what the Bible says about it. I LOVED THAT! It was exactly what I needed to read, it encouraged me that I wasn't 'scarring' my son and that what we had been doing was what we were supposed to be doing. I was so nice to be validated and it will be great to have a resource to turn others to when the question us (if they do). So I'm still recommending this book to everyone.

Books!

The mail just arrived today and to say I'm excited is an understatement. Last Monday I ordered a couple of books from Christian Books. The first is Finding Your Child's Way on the Autism Spectrum by Dr. Laura Hendrickson.


I have been wanting this book for several months yet timing for the purchase of it hasn't been great until recently. My main reason in wanting the book is that Dr. Hendrickson is a Christian and has a son who falls on the spectrum too. The greatest struggle I have battled since Lincoln's diagnosis isn't finding resources about Asperger's but finding a Godly resource for helping us to raise our son as Godly parents. It is unfortunate fact, but the Christian community is entirely lacking in the Autism area of parenting. So when I find a book I have to read it, because Husband and I are raising our son not just to be a productive adult with Asperger's, but a Godly productive adult with Asperger's.

My goal is to read this book and to also blog about what I have read as I really do want to provide a resource for other parents. So check back to see my progress.

The other book I ordered was don't waste your life by John Piper. Our Adult Sunday School class is reading through this book and discussing it in class. I am excited for this as well. Lately I've felt that the adult class was lacking in practical lessons for busy adults. However, the last couple of classes I have been excited and encouraged by the actual discussion among the adults. I leave feeling fed, that what had been missing was found and my desire to draw closer to God had grown. You may be getting a few reports on this book as well.


The count down to baby has begun (well, actually it began a long time ago but now it is much sooner). 5 more weeks! No, I'm not ready and to be honest this baby can stay where it is forever! I'm sure I'll have a change of heart in few more weeks, but for now I'm just glad to be pregnant and not taking care of an infant. If I can remember I'll have Husband take a pic of me for you all to see.
